Sun is the prime source of light and energy on earth, without sun we can’t think the existence of  life on earth. He is the king of the solar system and the heaviest and largest astronomical body, all the planets and other tiny asteroids revolve around it. As Sun is being positioned at the center in our solar system, leads the center stage role everywhere in society or home or any other places like the father or head of the family in our home, leaders, politician or statesman etc.

When sun is strong in our horoscope he signifies our confidence, enthusiasm and our confident look while weak sun indicates our lazy and unconfident appearance.
As per Hindu methodology the Sanskrit name of sun is lord Aruna who has a chariot of seven horses and radiates whole solar system by his rays. From the early civilization sun is been worshiped in all different cultures from different names as roman called sun the lord “Apollo”. In Vedic astrology the sun is treated as a planet Surya and who plays a vital role to decide the fortune of natives.

In natural zodiac wheel sun rules the 5th house being the lord of Leo and Leo falls into the 5th house. The 5th house is considered about the creativity, politics, romance and intelligence etc. Sun is the symbol of purity and divine knowledge. Sun reveals the truth of divine secrets which show the enlighten path to a spiritual person to get libration from Maya (the worldly pleasure are considered an illusion in Hindu philosophy which is called Maya).

For day time birth sun is supposed to be strong in horoscope and for night birth sun is weak positioned.
Sun is the supreme body in solar system like a king ,so sun also rules ego and position of the sun in birth chart shows how egoistic we are?

Sun creates dramas, loves political power, needs attention, Sun shows the path to the center of truth; thus he indicates rightness or self-righteousness.
Sun throws a concentrated light upon matters of his house lordship then 'burns up' the ego impurities there.

Sun propels the native to a higher, more idealized and more individualized level of self-expression regarding matters of his occupied house. Sun is the voluntary (will-power) while Saturn is the action; the action which are karmic, lawful and obligatory.

Sun is strong in the rashi of his friends Jupiter, moon and mars and is weakened in a rashi of His enemies Saturn and Venus. He is neutral in a rashi of mercury.
Sun symbolizes the purification by fire and he is masculine energy.

"The Sun's eyes are honey-coloured. He has a square body.
  He is of clean habits, bilious, intelligent, and has limited hair on (his head)."
Contemplate of Sun well adorned with two arms,
Seated on a lotus, with a lotus flower in one hand, Red-coloured, like lotus and aboard a chariot of seven horses.

As per Saravali – “The Sun rules snakes, wool, hills, gold, weapons, poison, fire, medicines, kings, river banks, forest, wood and Mantras”.

Other karakas of the sun - Ambition, authority, bile problems, boldness, chest and head, consciousness, courage, determination, energy, eyesight, weak faith, fame, father, hot, inflexible, king, impact of one’s personality, influence, nobility, optimism, personality, political power, reliance on self, soul, vitality.

Material attributes of the sun are copper, gold, wheat, ruby, east direction and summers.

Is Sun Malefic or Benefic?
Sun is benefic in regard to Leo, Taurus, Aquarius, Scorpio, Aries and Sagittarius ascendants.
He is neutral for Cancer, Virgo and Capricorn.
He is malefic for Gemini, Pisces and Libra.

Sun seeks mercury as neutral planet neither friend nor enemy.
When sun receives aspect of Saturn or Venus then sun’s capacity for self confidence and genuineness is reduced by the material pleasures (Venus) or material pains (Saturn).
And if aspected by his friend mars, moon or Jupiter then soul prosper and natural feeling of well being is enhanced.
